Dr. Nicole Buote, DVM, DACVS (Small Animal) is currently an Associate Professor in the Small Animal Surgery Department at Cornell University. She received her DVM from Tufts University Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine and then completed a rotating internship at Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston. After that she completed a surgical internship at the Dallas Veterinary Surgery Center. Dr. Buote then completed a surgery residency at the Animal Medical Center in New York City. After residency, Dr. Buote worked in private practice for 11 years in southern California, as a staff surgeon and then the Chief of the surgery department for 6 years. She joined Cornell University in 2020 as an Associate Professor of Soft Tissue Surgery in the Department of Clinical Sciences. Her research focuses on minimally invasive surgery for animals and interventional radiologic techniques. Dr. Buote has published in textbooks and scientific journals the field of small animal surgery, on topics including liver and gallbladder disease, cruciate stabilization, vacuum-assisted closure for septic abdomens, trauma, laparoscopy and advanced wound management. Dr. Buote also enjoys lecturing and teaching at national conferences. She is also the founder of the Association of Women Veterinary Surgeons.
