Dr Muir is a Professor & Associate Dean of Basic Sciences and Research at the Gillespie College, Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate TN (2020-present). He has served as Professor of Physiology, Lincoln Memorial University (2014-2020) and Director of the Cardiopulmonary Research Laboratory at The Ohio State University for most of his career. He has also served as the research director for the US based Research Medications and Testing Consortium (RMTC) in Lexington KY (2007-2009), and as the Chief Medical Officer for the Animal Medical Center in New York City (2009-2013). Dr Muir is a fellow of the American Academy of Clinical Pharmacology. He is the Senior Scientific Advisor for QTest laboratories in Columbus OH, a commercial contract research organization. Dr Muir participates in the design and conduct of basic, pre-clinical and clinical research studies investigating the safety and efficacy of a wide variety of drugs developed to treat or limit disease, improve the quality of life and increase survival as a comparative and interdisciplinary science. His research encompasses basic and preclinical trials investigating cardiorespiratory drugs, medical cardiovascular and respiratory devices, monitoring equipment, fluid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. He is a mentor and advisor for students seeking advanced knowledge in basic and applied research or working toward advanced degress (MS, PhD). Similar excitement has surrounded his 2020 publication on myocardial contractility with over 60,000 views. Dr Muir supervises and conducts a variety of basic and applied research studies that have complied with GLP, GCP and GRP standards. He has lectured internationally and published extensively in both scientific and clinical forums on the subjects of monitoring equipment, pre-clinical use of bioengineered devices to regulate cardiopulmonary function, anesthesia and analgesia, pain management, critical care, acid-base balance, fluid therapy, circulatory shock. He has written 3 textbooks, two pain management manuals now in their 3rd edition.
