This lab is designed for the general practitioner who wants to enhance their efficiency and efficacy in performing any surgical procedure. Techniques covered include streamlined suturing mechanics and assorted suture patterns, hand-ties, and friction knots; tension-relieving wound closure techniques such as undermining, walking sutures, releasing incisions, and application of stents; closing oddly-shaped wounds; eliminating dog-ears; subdermal plexus flaps (sliding advancement flaps, H-plasty, and transposition flap); and placement of drains. Learn from board certified surgeons the tips and tricks that were not taught in veterinary school. Through practice on models and cadavers, and individual feedback from instructors, participants fine-tune the fundamentals and expand the repertoire of techniques confidently offered to your patients, making surgery more fun and rewarding.
Please note that participants should bring their own headlamps to this lab.
