This session will discuss advances in minimally invasive surgical (MIS) procedures of the biliary system including the use of surgical robotics in veterinary medicine. While this technology may seem decades away in practice this session will examine the pro’s and con’s of surgical robots and describe a pathway for its inclusion in teaching and surgical practice. The use of near-infrared fluorescence (NIRF) has gained widespread interest in recent years. NIRF to outline the biliary tract and aid in dissection as well as other potential uses in these patients will be reviewed and guidelines for its use considered.
