Tibial fractures account for nearly 15% of fractures in cattle and cause therefore significant economic loss to the cattle industry. A number of methods have been described for management of tibial fractures including casts, Thomas splints w/o cast combination, transfixation pins and bone plates. External coaptation is often not ideal as it may produce poorly aligned fracture fragments due to the biomechanics acting over the fractured bone.
