This session discusses some of the normal sequelae and possible complications of postoperative management. Postoperative care is the care given to a patient after a surgical procedure is performed. This time period lasts from immediately after surgery, to potentially weeks and months beyond the procedure. Postoperative care may include vigilant monitoring of vital signs, pain management, wound care, and more. Although the types of surgeries that are performed in veterinary operative theater vary greatly, there are some core tenants that can improve surgical outcomes, and help to avoid potential pitfalls in the postsurgical time period.
