Targeted therapies and recognition of common complications can improve outcomes in managing critically ill or injured large animals. The goal for surgeons is to alleviate pain, decrease morbidity, and improve survival with a functional outcome for the patient. During this seminar, the speakers will present current standards of care, tips for managing surgical emergencies, and novel therapies recently developed or under investigation. Topics will include coagulopathies, gastrointestinal ileus, nutrition, pain management, biomarkers of disease and preventative strategies for post-operative complications.
