After pursuing other career interests, Dr. MacGillivray obtained her veterinary degree from the University of Pennsylvania followed by a Surgery and Internal Medicine hospital internship at Peterson and Smith in Ocala Florida. She returned to UPenn's New Bolton Center and completed a Large Animal Internal Medicine residency. She has had a keen interest in emergency medicine and initially remained in the Chester County area working as an emergency veterinarian for local private ambulatory practices. Dr. MacGillivray joined the Hagyard Equine Medical Institute in Lexington, Kentucky as an Internal Medicine Associate in 2003. During her time at Hagyard, she has enjoyed being part of a multi-specialty hospital and has been integral in developing the dystocia team response, growth of our medicine fellowship program and more recently, assisted in the creation of an ambulatory emergency team at Hagyard. Her goal is to conintue to evolve and grow as a internal medicine clinician as well as aiding in the development of creative practice strategies such as emergency and urgent care that can provide sustainability for equine veterinary practices.
