Dr. Kraus received his DVM from Kansas State University in 1985 and completed internship, residency, and graduate degree in surgery at University of Missouri-Columbia in 1989. He then joined the faculty at Tufts University College of Veterinary Medicine in Orthopedic and Neurosurgery. He held a joint appointment at Harvard Medical School at Brigham and Women’s Hospital contributing to developing and performing innovative techniques in neurosurgery in humans (1990-1998). He was founder of Securos Veterinary Orthopedics and was Chief Executive Officer from 1997-2008. He joined the faculty at Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2007. He was founder of the International Veterinary Orthopedic and Neurosurgical Academy in 2010 that develops surgical devises and offers post DVM education worldwide. Publications include 100+ research manuscripts, 30+ book chapters, and four books. He is the inventor of the Securos external fixator system, cruciate repair system, bone anchor, TPLO plate, and Orthomed SOP plate and KEFS external fixator.
