Surgical Oncologist
Dr Sarah Boston, Ontario, Canada
Dr. Boston graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon, SK, Canada in 1996. She completed a rotating internship at the University of Guelph the following year. She then returned to Western Canada for three years of general practice before going to the University of Guelph for a residency and DVSc in small animal surgery. She became board certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2004. Dr. Boston then completed a fellowship in surgical oncology in 2005. She is an ACVS Founding Fellow of both surgical oncology and oral & maxillofacial surgery.
Dr. Boston was on faculty at the University of Guelph for five years before moving south to the University of Florida where she was an associate professor of surgical oncology for five years. She was awarded tenure at both institutions, which was a lot of fun. Dr. Boston returned to Canada and began working for VCA Canada in early 2018, where she started the surgical oncology service at 404 Veterinary Emergency & Referral in Newmarket. She is adjunct faculty at the University of Guelph. She has published numerous scientific papers and textbook chapters in the field of surgical oncology, some of them good. She is currently working as a locum veterinary surgical oncologist.
Dr. Boston is also a published author and cancer survivor. Her first book, Lucky Dog: How Being a Veterinarian Saved My Life, was a bestseller, published by the House of Anansi Press in 2014. She is also one of the founders of The Cageliner, a satirical newspaper for the veterinary industry. Sarah recently completed a two-year program at Humber College in Comedy Performance and Writing and is pursuing a side hustle in stand up comedy and writing.
