Alex Gillen (MA, MS, VMB, CertAVP, DACVS (Large Animal), DECVS, FHEA, MRCVS) is a Senior Lecturer in Equine Surgery at the University of Liverpool in the United Kingdom. Alex is currently undertaking a part-time PhD, which aims to identify at risk horses and improve outcomes in cases of strangulating lipoma in horses. Although part of the investigations involve epidemiology to identify at risk horses, the majority of the study involves metabolomic, proteomic and lipidomic evaluation. As always, I am very grateful to the study team and collaborators for all the hard work and expertise contributed to the studies.
