Dr. Jennifer Schleining is a board-certified large animal surgeon and head of the Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences at Texas A&M’s School of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences. She received her bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from South Dakota State University and her DVM from Iowa State University. Prior to completing a large animal surgical residency and master’s degree at Iowa State University, she completed equine internships at Arizona Equine Medical and Surgical Centre and Southwest Equine Medical and Surgical Centre, was an associate veterinarian in rural mixed animal practice in central South Dakota, and was a clinical fellow at Oregon State University. She spent 15 years on the faculty of Iowa State University before joining Texas A&M in 2018. Her interests include veterinary medical education, advancing surgical procedures and knowledge in large animals, and leadership development. She is married to her veterinary school classmate and together they are on the continuous journey of being “cool parents” to four children.
