This seminar will discuss the available evidence for joint therapies aimed at restoring and enhancing joint lubrication. Evidence linking joint trauma and osteoarthritis with impaired cartilage lubrication will be discussed from both the veterinary and human literature. Lubrication and other potential mechanisms of action will be discussed for osteoarthritis therapeutics including hyaluronic acid, microgels and hydrogels, and lubricin.
