When to Administer Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs During General Anesthesia to Better Protect Organ Function ACVAA Diplomates/Residents Emphasis
NSAIDs are commonly administered around the time of general anesthesia (GA) and surgery in order to provide analgesia. There is significant controversy surrounding the timing of administration with regards to side effects and provision of pain relief, however. This seminar aims to review the available literature concerning the theory and evidence surrounding NSAID administration and GA, with an eye toward making recommendations concerning the proper timing of administration for multiple patient populations.
