This lecture will describe the most common reasons to perform surgery of the thyroid gland, how to select cases that are good surgical candidates and which cases can be done in a general practice setting. Part of the lecture will also focus on the instrumentation needed to safely perform the surgery, the post op management of the patients and possible alternatives when surgical excision is not an option or not indicated.
