Preventative medicine plays a significant role in reducing disease burden in the population. Preventing illnesses and injuries from developing or progressing particularly in chronic and progressive diseases can not only benefit the quality of life of pets but also reduce the emotional and financial burden associated with managements and treatments for clients. The objective of this lecture is to provide an update on available strategies to reduce the burden and/or prevent development of common orthopedic diseases (e.g., hip and elbow dysplasia) in dogs.
